The Royal Flush is the most sought after hands in Poker. If you’re not terribly familiar with poker and you don’t know what the Royal flush is, it’s when a player’s hand is an Ace, King, Queen, Jack and 10, all from the same suite. Simply put, this is the most valuable hand in poker and beats any other combination.
Now you can see why it is so sought after, but unfortunately, it is also very rare. In fact, there are some people out there who have been playing Poker for many many years, who have never seen a Royal Flush in their hand before, but why?
As you can imaging, getting those cards all from the same suite means that the odds of getting a Royal Flush are extremely small. However, there are some numbers out there. For most normal versions of Poker, a player will get a Royal Flush once every 40 000 to 48 000 hands on average.
If you look at your average player, they would probably play around 200 hands of poker in an hour, which means that it would take 200 hours of play to reach 40 000 hands. Depending on how many hours they play a day, this could mean 200 days or more. So you can see for many people out there who don’t live and breathe poker, it’s going to take a long time.
While the average may be one Royal Flush for every 40 000 to 48 000 hands, the problem with averages is sometimes they lie to you. There have been players who have sat down and tracked how long it has taken them and sometimes you can get a Royal Flush within 30 000 hands, other times it can actually take 150 000 hands.
Poker is a random game, a game of chance. Overtime it will average out to the 40 000 – 48 000 hands but you’ll need to play millions of hand before this happens. Until then, sometimes it will take a lot longer, maybe if you’re lucky it will happen quickly. Either way, the Royal Flush will continue to elude many players and thrill those who see this rare creation on very rare occasions.
