Israel Said To Open Their First Legal Casino

The Israel Prime Minister, Binyamin Netanyahu has asked ministers of transport Yisrael Katz and tourism Yariv Levin, to consider building legal casino and hotel in the Red Sea district of Israel. The first country’s legal casino will be built in the city of Eilat in an effort to alter the tourism resort into the Las Vegas of the Red Sea in Israel.

A casino tycoon, Sheldon Adelson was restricted after showing an interest in opening a new casino in Israel in the 1990s. Gambling in Israel has been denied for years by religious groups and security authorities due to certain clashes of moral beliefs. Recently this summer, authorities in Israel discovered an illegal casino that has been operating in a disused bomb shelter.

Netanyahu has asked the ministers to look at several eligible hotels in Eilat which could be licensed for legal gambling. He is also looking at building a casino at the existing location of Eilat’s airport which will soon be replaced by a bigger airport outside Eilat.

Minister of Tourism Shows Interest

Last week Friday, Levin spoke on an Israeli radio show and he confirmed that he is interested in the new casino in Eilat. In Levin’s opinion, it will not only attract gamblers from Europe, but also boost the economy of Eilat. He also added by saying that there’s no doubt that a new casino will have social potential and if they go with the plan, they will make sure that they implement restrictions and supervision to prevent the new casino from becoming a place of crime.
