World ranked No. 2 Andy Murray made his Grand Slam exit after losing in five-set to Japan’s Kei Nishikori. 29-year-old Murray led Nishikori by two sets to one, but eventually, Nishikori battled to win the US Open quarter-final match in five sets.
Murray, who lost 1-6 6-4 4-6 6-1 7-5 to the Japanese, said he did not let anyone down, he tried his best and fought as hard as he could with what he had. Murray had been on course to become only the fourth player to reach all four major finals in the same year since the Open tournament began in 1968. Before winning Wimbledon, he was the French and Australian Open runner-up.
Murray began in good form, overwhelming Nishikori in the first set. He lost control after a passing rain shower at the Arthur Ashe Stadium. Nishikori came back with a terrific form and levelled the score at one set all by breaking back three times after losing his serve.

The infuriated Murray argued with both the tournament and referee umpires, but the game, the point and the set went Nishikori’s way. Murray, who was furious, said he was only curious why they stopped the point and it affected him.
