A wife and gambling addict of an Omani politician is suing the Ritz Casino after she lost a whopping £2million on the Ritz’s card tables.
50 year old Muscat resident, Nora Al-Daher lost all her millions in the game Punto Banco, in the exclusive London’s club in just a few hours in April 2012. Now, in a statement, Nora says that she would not have lost all the money if the casino did not take advantage of her gambling addiction. She further said that whilst playing, employees stood behind her and encouraged her to keep on playing, despite the employees being made aware of her addiction.
It even exaggerated to an extent that the casino extended her cheque-cashing facility as her losses mounted. ‘I needed someone that night to tell me to stop playing and bring me to my senses,’ the multi-millionaire told the court. ‘If I had been told to stop, of course I would stop immediately. No one ever told me to stop or think about my gambling.’
This is not the first time that the Omani Foreign Minister’s, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Al-Busaidi wife has suffered losses. Apparently she already lost much money at other casinos before going to the Ritz. She allegedly told the staff at the Ritz that she did not want to play, but just few hours later she had reached her £1.7million cheque-cashing limit, and not long after that she hit the £2million marker. Judge Anthony Seys Llewellyn was told by Barrister Robert Deacon that Mrs Al-Daher had made it clear when she arrived that she was ‘a gambling addict’ and did not want to play punto banco.
‘The staff paid no regard to her distraught demeanour or what she told them and did nothing to discourage her from gambling or to reflect on the wisdom of further gambling,’ he said.
