Chelsea has signed Leicester City defensive midfielder N’Golo Kante on a five-year contract. The transfer fee is believed to be in a region of £30 million. Kante joined the Premier League Champions Leicester City last summer for £6 million and made 40 Premier League appearances in Leicester.
25-year-old was part of the France team that reached the Euro 2016 final. The midfielder is Chelsea’s second signing after striker Michy Batshuayi joined the club from Marseille.
Commenting on his move, Kante told the media that he’s so happy to have signed for one of the biggest teams in Europe. For him, it’s a dream come true. He further stated that it is a great opportunity to work with a brilliant manager like Antonio Conte, and some of the world’s best players.
The Foxes said in a statement on Friday, 15 July 2016, that it was Kante’s obvious wish to join Chelsea despite the offer of a significantly improved and long-term contract. Leicester has accepted a club-record fee of £30 million last week Friday.
