Cricket Australia reported on Monday that Australian pace bowler, Mitchell Johnson, will retire from international cricket in the mid-way of the Test series against the All Blacks. “It’s more difficult for me to be consistent now and added this is the right time to say “goodbye” to cricket” – Johnson said.
34 year-old Johnson, who was the 2009 and 2014 ICC player of the year, is fourth on the list of the best Australia’s Test wicket takers with 311 wickets. However, he hasn’t been performing well lately. In the Australian’s show down against the Kiwis, he has managed to take only five wickets in the two Tests.
It’s been a wonderful career for Johnson and he seemed to have enjoyed every moment representing his country. Just like any player, Johnson also had ups and downs in his career, but he certainly gave his best and he has achieved everything he ever wanted, including the 2013-14 Ashes Series win and a Cricket World Cup championship with Australia which he will celebrate forever.
