Milestone for Manchester United Striker Wayne Rooney

The England captain and Manchester United striker, Wayne Rooney, has scored his 100th Premier League goal at Old Trafford during a 3-1 win against AFC Bournemouth on Tuesday, 17 May 2016. Only Thierry Henry has scored 114 Premier League goals at Highbury.

The two clubs resumed their final-day match after Sunday’s match was postponed following a dummy bomb scare at Old Trafford. United’s hopes of reaching fourth place and Champions League football next season were ended by Manchester City’s 1- 1 draw at Swansea City on Sunday.

Wayne Rooney sees midfield future in Manchester United

Wayne Rooney, who sees his Manchester United future in midfield after an impressive performance last night, said sometimes you have to make choices in your career and at the moment, it’s better for him to play deeper.

30-year-old Rooney opened the scoring, followed by Marcus Rashford and created the scoring opportunity for Ashley Young who netted the third goal. Teenage striker, Rashford, played a significant role in the build-up to the opener. 18-year-old Rashford was also named in Roy Hodgson’s preliminary Euro 2016 squad after his debut and scoring impressive seven goals in 16 games.

BBC Sport has launched an England XI team selector which lets fans choose who should start at Euro 2016. Within 24 hours, over 500 000 had selected their team. Only 51% of supporters chose Rooney to start and 83% of those chose him to play in midfield.
