Messi’s injury had caused Barcelona to struggle holding ball position in the first half. Before half-time, Leverkusen was leading Barcelona by a solitary goal from Kyriakos Papadopoulos.
Papadopoulos put Leverkusen ahead by scoring a wonderful goal from Hakan Calhanoglu’s corner, beating Barcelona goalkeeper, Marc-Andre Ter Stegen from the near post at a tight angle to make it 1-0. Midfielder, Andres Iniesta was withdrawn from the match after suffering from an injury. After latest injury, Enrique told the media that it was a tough night for them, they played their second match without Messi, but they managed to win. All credit goes to his players.

Roberto scored his first European goal before Suarez smashed another goal to beat Leverkusen goalkeeper, Bernard Leno in just two minutes. Former Liverpool striker, Luis Suarez scored the winning goal to come from behind and beat Leverkusen by 2-1. With Messi out because of injury, Barcelona boss Luis Enrique made changes in the starting lineup by giving Sandro, Suarez and Neymar the opportunity to start with the match.
