Gambling regulators are currently considering if they should allow casinos to offer players skill based slot games. These games mimic video and arcade games which aim to attract a younger generation of gamblers.
On Thursday, the Gaming Commission released draft regulations governing these proposed machines in Massachusetts. Marcus Peter, the executive director of the Association of Gaming Equipment Manufactures said so-called “skill based” slot machines appeal to younger people who tend to think traditional machines are old-fashioned.
Anti-Gambling Association Against Skill Based Slot Games
Skill based games have been met with criticisms and disapproval from anti-gambling associations such as the Massachusetts’ Stop Predatory Gambling. They believe these skill-based games are potentially more addictive as compared to existing casino games. They state these games blur the lines between children’s games and wagering which could lead to potential gambling problems.
The Future of Skill Based Games
Two states, Nevada and New Jersey have already put laws and regulations in place regarding these skills-based games. Policymakers in New York and Pennsylvania are also considering legislation that will allow these games. Alan Woinski who is president of Gaming USA Corp predicts that these games are at least a year away from hitting casino floors.
