Chelsea is planning to turn Stamford Bridge into a 60 000-seat stadium. The new submitted application plan, which involves destroying the current 41 600-seat stadium, other buildings currently on the site and evacuating Chelsea’s residents, will be inspected by Fulham and the London Borough of Hammersmith.
In their official statement on their club website, Chelsea said that the way the new stadium has been designed; it will improve every area and will offer a dazzling view from every seat to create an exciting atmosphere in the arena.
Chelsea Builds Dreams
The new stadium involves digging down to reduce the height of the stadium and creating a public space around District Line and part of the Southern mainline railways. The capacity of the current stadium is 41 600, which is smaller than stadiums of rival teams such as Manchester United (76 000), Arsenal (60 000) and Manchester City (55 000).
The project at Stamford Bridge is estimated to take three years to complete at a cost of £600million plus. Provided they get a permission to build the stadium, Chelsea could begin their new life at Stamford Bridge in 2020. The deadline for comments on the application has been set by the council and will be on the 8th January 2016.
