Manchester United Fires Louis van Gaal

Louis van Gaal has been fired as Manchester United manager. Van Gaal arrived at the Carrington practising field on Monday, 23 May 2016, with the club still expected to replace him with former Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho. A few minutes after Van Gaal arrived, Paul Gilroy QC, League Managers Association lawyer, also arrived at Carrington.

Gilroy is the same employment lawyer who handled David Moyes’ case when he was fired as United’s manager in 2014. According to his profile, which you can see here, Gilroy has represented a number of football clients. They include Sir Alex Ferguson, Martin O’Neill, Roy Hodgson, Sam Allardyce, Steve McClaren, Roy Keane, Roberto Martinez, Harry Redknapp, Nigel Pearson, Brendan Rodgers, and Alan Pardew.

Legal 500 2014 & Chambers & Partners 2015, which ranks as one of the leading sets on the Northern Circuit, describe Gilroy as a prominent employment lawyer who is well-known for getting a fantastic deal for football clients.

Sky Sports sources believe that the 64-year-old van Gaal was told on Sunday, 22 May 2016, that he’s no longer in charge of the club, but the club is yet to comment and the official statement is expected on Monday night, 23 May 2016.

Manchester United wins FA Cup final

Before van Gaal left London after United’s FA Cup victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday, 21 May 2016, he told some of his colleagues that he did not know if he will see them again. When he was approached by a reporter, the Dutchman commented by saying “it’s over” as he left the club hotel on Sunday, 22 May 2016.

Another new manager for Manchester United

Mourinho will be the third boss for United since Sir Alex Ferguson stood down as United’s manager after 26 years in charge. Mourinho is expected to hold talks with senior United officials on Tuesday, 24 May 2016.

Van Gaal’s win rate is the third greatest of all of United’s permanent coaches at 51 percent, but his club’s style of play has seen him draw criticisms.
