Andrew Johnston of England has won his first European Tour at the Open de Espana. Johnston gained control over Garcia Sergio to win his first European Tour championship at the Open de Espana. Johnston carded a final round of 70 to end one over par and a ball ahead Joost Luiten of Halland and another hit back following a closing 67. The best score of the day at Valderrama went to Garcia who managed to score 67.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Johnston said he is very amazed and so happy with the way he played. He played the ball well the entire week, stroke and chipped quite well, but in the first three days, he struggled a bit with his irons. He added by saying, he kept on going and playing in until he found something on the fourth.
Michael Lorenzo-Vera dropped down to position six in the European Tour Leader Board
Overnight, with three bogeys in the first four holes, Michael Lorenzo-Vera quickly dropped low in the leader board, while a winner of two major championships Martin Kaymer appreciated a two-ball lead when he scored from 1.67 yard for a birdie on the on the third hole.
Garcia sprinted to the turn in 32 and also birdied the 12th, but his aspirations seemed to have been shuttered after failing to get up from a greenside shelter to bogey the 15th and fall three balls behind.
