Former Hull City A.F.C. Manager Steve Bruce is set to be named as the new boss of Aston Villa on Wednesday, 12th October 2016. Bruce, who left Hull City in July, will replace Roberto di Matteo who was fired at Villa Park on 3rd October 2016.
The chairman and club’s owner Dr Tony Xia tweeted and said the announcement will be made tomorrow, October 13th 2016. He added that it’s time for all to stand together and support the club. He believes they’ve made the best try. Villa, who are in 19th position on the Premier League table, will host the Wolves on Saturday, 15th October 2016.
A Few minutes after Dr Xia’s tweet, the 55-year-old Bruce appeared on ITV Sport as a pundit and said, all he can say is he thinks he’s in the frame. He’s expecting a phone call today and they will see what comes from there.
Bruce led Hull City into the Premier League through the Championship playoffs in May 2016 before leaving his fourth promotion from the Championship. The former Sunderland, Wigan Athletic and Birmingham City manager was interviewed for the England manager position before Sam Allardyce was hired in July 2016. Allardyce left his position as England boss after one match in charge following allegations of how to circumvent rules on player transfers.
Last season, Villa were relegated from the Premier League and changed to former Chelsea manager Di Matteo. However, Di Matteo won only one game out of 10 Championship games. He was sacked after just 124 days in charge. Later on, Steve Clarke, who was Di Matteo’s assistant coach, took over as caretaker and he was listed as a possible candidate for the job.
