England captain and Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney is expected to face the media after being dropped for the World Cup Qualifier against Slovenia on Tuesday, 11th October 2016. According to Sky Sports, the country’s leading goal-scorer and the team captain will be called on the bench by interim boss Gareth Southgate for Tuesday’s match against Slovenia.
Rooney, 30, will face the media in a press conference on Tuesday, 11th October 2016, and fans will be able to hear the skipper’s response to his exclusion live on Sky Sports News HQ from 6.30pm.
In Southgate’s first game in charge, England beat Malta 2-0, but the United forward was booed by some of the fans at Wembley on Saturday, 8th October 2016. However, England boss, Southgate felt the criticism of Rooney was unreasonable and supported him to continue to play for his country with pride.
Former Scotland midfielder Paul Lambert told Sky Sports News that Rooney would be idolised for his achievement in some countries. He said his criticisms at times are unfair and he ploughs and plays with pride for his national team.
Lambert further added that Ashley Cole, Frank Lampard, and John Terry took an enormous volume of criticism in their time with England. When you look at their caps, they were the guys that kept turning out, he added.
Rooney, who has won a record for an outfield player, and 117 England caps, announced ahead of Allardyce’s only game against Slovakia last month that he plans to retire from the international team after the 2018 World Cup.
