Serena Williams is one win away from winning another Grand Slam after steam rolling Agnieszka Radwanska 6-0, 6-4 in the 2016 Australian Open semi-final in Melbourne. This marks Williams’ ninth win in nine matches against Radwanska who is number 4 in the women’s rankings.
If Williams wins the final against Angelique Kerber on Saturday, she will equal Steffi Graff’s record of 22 Grand Slam titles. Besides being the overwhelming favourite, Williams has won all six finals which she has contested in Australia, Melbourne Park.
Williams was two wins away from winning her 22nd Grand Slam title and breaking the record when she lost to Vinci Roberta in the 2015 U.S Open semi-finals.
Speaking on her upcoming game on Saturday, Williams said if she doesn’t win she’ll still be one Grand Slam short. She also said that she is feeling much better physically, and mentally, she needed a break after the Open. She however admitted that she didn’t think she would do as well as she has, this fast. Williams added that she is really excited to be in the final.
Kerber reached her first Grand Slam final after beating Sydney-born British player, Johanna Konta, 7-5, 6-2 in the semi-finals. She has only won once in six meetings against Williams back in 2012.
