Triathlon World Series: British Triathlete Alistair Brownlee Helps Brother

The 2012 and 2016 Olympic gold medallist in the triathlon, Alistair Brownlee, shocked the world at the Triathlon World Series in Cozumel, Mexico by helping his exhausted brother Jonny Brownlee finish the race. The exhausted Jonny needed to be assisted over the finish line to secure the title.

Leading with 700m left, exhausted Briton Jonny, started to weave on the road in humid and hot weather conditions in Cozumel, Mexico. His brother Alistair came from behind, caught him for a couple of hundred metres before pushing him over the line to finish in the second place. Both brothers were overtaken by Henri Schoeman from South Africa who finished in the first place.

Mario Mola Wins His First Triathlon World Series

The 26-year-old Jonny, who received a silver medal at Rio 2016, collapsed having finished second. Mario Mola’s fifth-place finish in the final race of the series in Mexico, Cozumel, was sufficient for him to increase the overall ranks and secure his first ITU World Triathlon Championship, four points ahead of Jonny. Fernando Alarza finished third place. Commenting on Jonny’s situation, Alistair said it was just a natural reaction to come and help his brother. He added that he would have done the same thing for anyone in that position.
