Leicester City Forward Riyad Mahrez crowned PFA Player of the Year

Leicester City forward Riyad Mahrez has been named the Professional Footballers’ Association Player of the Year for 2015-16 season. 25-year-old Algeria International has been helpful in Leicester City’s shocking push towards the Premier League title.

Mahrez, who scored 17 goals and created 11 contributions in 33 league games, beat team-mates N’Golo Kante and Jamie Vardy, West Ham’s Dimitri Payet, Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil, and Tottenham’s Harry Kane to win the award. His award was voted for by his Algeria international’s team-mates.

Manchester City midfielder Izzy Christiansen was crowned the Women’s Player of the Year Award while Tottenham midfielder Dele Ali was crowned PFA Young Player of the Year. Sunderland forward Beth Mead was crowned Women’s Young Player of the Year.

Riyad Mahrez scored the winning goal against Swansea City on Super Sunday

Mahrez, who scored in the win over Swansea City, accepted the award on Sunday at the Grosvenor Hotel, London, United Kingdom. Leicester are now five points clear over their rival Tottenham who have a game in hand.

Mahrez had an explosive start to the campaign with four goals in three games in 2014. His first goal in the Premier League tournament came when he scored a brilliant hat-trick in 3-0 away win at Swansea in December, followed by three more goals in the next two matches as Leicester City secure the top spot in the Premier League.
