Many Pacquiao has confirmed that he is busy negotiating a boxing rematch with Floyd Mayweather. His promoter, Bob Arum, also confirmed that Pacquiao intends to retire from boxing after his next fight in April next year.
Pacquiao’s next opponent is yet to be revealed, although WBO super-lightweight champion Terence Crawford and Britain’s Amir Khan have been recently recommended as potential opponents. 36 year old Pacquiao took it to Facebook by announcing he is not sure who his next opponent will be, but he’s hoping to get a rematch with the 38 year old Mayweather.
Pacquiao has since undergone surgery to repair his right shoulder injury and has not fought since his undisputed points decision loss in May against Mayweather.
The question is, will he accept the rematch? Mayweather confirmed his retirement following a win over Andre Berto in September. His last victory put him in record books, leveling 49-0 unbeaten record of a legendary heavyweight champion Rocky Marcian. Leonard Ellerbe, Mayweather Promotions Chief Executive said on Monday that Mayweather will not be returning to the ring. He also tweeted on his official account “Floyd Mayweather is RETIRED, end of discussion.”
