England reached their second ICC World Twenty20 final after beating New Zealand by seven wickets in Delhi, India. Batting first, the previously undefeated New-Zealand battled to 89-runs for 1 after 10 overs, with Colin Munro scoring 46-runs. But England couldn’t take it anymore, they came back in full force and held New Zealand back to reach just 153-runs for 8 wickets. Ben Stokes seized three wickets as New Zealand scored just 20-runs off their last four overs.
All credit goes to Jason Roy who managed an incredible 78-runs from 44 balls as England reached the target in 17.1 overs. Reaching the final has rewarded England who were humiliatingly knocked out of in the group stages of last year’s World Cup while the Black Caps reached the final.
Roy, who helped England to reach its target, who had never reached 30 runs, came into this tournament with an average of 13 runs from eight T20 international innings. 25-year-old Roy seemed to be under pressure for his position after a poor performance against South Africa. But he is now the third-highest run-scorer after his finest best innings in this tournament.
Well done to Roy, Jordan and Stokes who showed outstanding performance. England will face India or West Indies in Kolkata on Sunday.
