Alan Shearer Describes England’s EURO 2016 Defeat as the Worst Performance

Former England captain Alan Shearer has labelled England’s Euro 2016 defeat as the ‘worst performance’ he has ever seen from England. Roy Hodgson’s side lost 2-1 at the last-16 stage on Monday night, 27 June 2016, in Nice.

Hodgson Steps Down As England Coach

England manager Roy Hodgson also announced his resignation after England lost to Iceland. 68-year-old Hodgson had been in charge of the national team for four years after taking over from Fabio Capello. Hodgson has only won three of 11 matches in major tournament finals.

Former striker Shearer told BBC’s Match of the Day that England’s performance was ‘tactically inept’. Another England ex-striker told BBC Sport that England displayed an embarrassing performance.

Ex-England midfielder Jermaine Jenas commented by saying he thought it was Iceland’s easiest game of the tournament and they seemed to want it more. They gave England no chance as they were very strong in the tackling.
