A Premier League match between Manchester United and Bournemouth has been postponed following a dummy bomb scare at Old Trafford stadium on Sunday the 15th of May 2016. The stadium was evacuated after a dummy device was left in the toilet by mistake. Police have described the device as a bomb mock-up.
The dummy bomb was left at Old Trafford stadium toilets in error by a private training company a few days before the Sunday match. An expected crowd of 76 000 were settling into their seats when a security guard spotted the device and raised the alarm. One security guard who discovered the device, told the reporters that the device certainly did not look like something you would want to mess with.
Tony Lloyd, Greater Manchester Mayor and Police and Crime Commissioner, called for an urgent inquiry into the fiasco. Lloyd said “a full inquiry is required to urgently find out how this happened, why it happened and who will be held accountable.”
Described by the Mayor as ‘fiasco’, he added by saying “this fiasco caused massive inconvenience to fans who had come far and wasted police officers’ and the Army’s bomb squad time, and unnecessarily put people in danger.”
The postponed match between Manchester United and Bournemouth will be replayed on Tuesday the 17th of May 2016 at 8PM and will be broadcasted live on Sky Sports.
