One of the most anticipated north London derbies between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur has yet again disappointed both teams and fans alike. The derby ended in a 1-1 draw at Emirates Stadium. Spurs dominated in the first half and took a 1-0 lead when Harry Kane hit back of the net.
After half-time, Arsenal started gaining control and equalized when Mesut Ozil crossed a long ball for Kieran Gibbs and beat Hugo Lloris’s net. The good news for Arsenal fans is that Arsenal is now level on points with Manchester City sitting on top of the Premier League log, while Spurs are on position five, thanks to Gibbs who rescued a point for them.
Although the visitors were denied a win in the pulsating London derby, Spurs remain unbeaten since the opening of the season and are within three points of a League place. The Spurs manager, Mauricio Pochettino, praised their performance and said his team deserved to win. Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, too, was pleased with the result and the mental toughness his players showed on the field. Their last week 5-1 League defeat by Bayern Munich was the wakeup call needed to kick the boys back into shape. Substitute Gibbs got the equalizing goal in the 77th minute and Wanger was left to mourn Olivier Giroud’s scoring chance misses in previous games.
After their international break, Arsenal will visit Norwich and West Brom in the League, while Spurs have other London derbies against West Ham and Chelsea.
