The Aquis Great Barrier Reef Resort will proceed with its construction project as scheduled. Earlier this week, Queensland government announced that plans for adding a casino venue to the resort will no longer be part of the project. In order to be able to gain approvals by the end of this year, Aquis must move forward to see the project of the resort begin in early next year.
Last year, Aquis Group was given access to begin construction of an upper-class resort in Cairns and a large gambling venue was part of the available facilities according to the preliminary plan. The announcement made by the government gave the go-ahead to other gambling operators eager to get a license, and build a casino in Queensland.
Commenting on the matter, Curts Pitt, the Brisbane Treasurer, said that the Queensland government had assumed that Aquis does not want to be part of the Integrated Resort Development process anymore. He also added by saying that there was no complication to the establishment of a casino at Yorkeys Knob, it would be impossible without a license for enterprise IRD.
Aquis’s decision of leaving the casino venue out might be beneficial to other developers like ASF Group. ASF Group has already eyed Cairns for its business expansion and has been looking for its own regional casino license for a very long time.
