Are Casino Comps A Dying Breed?

Casinos are cutting down on casino comps, this is according to Jerry Stickman who is a gaming guru. He believes that casino complementaries are becoming a thing of the past. Stickman reflects on his days as a Poker player in land-based casinos in the 1980’s. Back then, Stickman states that he used to receive free drinks and food comps at the downtown casinos where he played. The more money he spent at the casinos, the more comps he would get. He even got up to the point of receiving gift baskets, luxury suits and limo services. In a nutshell, as a valued casino player, he was offered some great comps and VIP services.

As the years progressed, Stickman noticed a gradual decline in the comps he received at casinos. The beverage and food comps got less and less. The VIP treatment started to seem like not so VIP treatment. This was not only true for Stickman because his other gambling buddies expressed the same concern. Casino complementaries were being chopped significantly.  Have casino comps decreased because land-based casinos are currently not making enough money from players or have casinos identified casino comps as a waste of money?

According to Stickman, cutting down on casino comps has become a trend in the casino industry.
